MOTEL HÉLÈNE est un duo formé en 2015 par FRÉDÉRIQUE LALIBERTÉ et PHILIPPE LAUZIER. Dans une salle sombre, un dispositif d’éclairage artisanal anime une sélection d’objets confectionnés, transformés. Une trame sonore composée de voix humaines, celles d’Erika Angel et d’Alexandre St-Onge, récitant un texte, est appuyée d’échantillons électroniques, instrumentaux et vocaux. Tantôt narratif, abstrait, surréaliste, le texte fait référence aux objets mis en scène en spéculant sur leur présence, leur signification, leur conséquence dans le monde. Cet endroit est une illusion. Il s’y déroule une activité sous-jacente qui se matérialise ici sous forme de théâtre d’objets… sonores!

 

The duo MOTEL HÉLÈNE was formed in 2015 by FRÉDÉRIQUE LALIBERTÉ and PHILIPPE LAUZIER. In a darkened room, a makeshift lighting rig animates a selection of crafted and transformed objects. A soundtrack of human voices (Erika Angel and Alexandre St-Onge) reciting a text, is supported by samples of electronic, instrumental and vocal sounds. Alternately narrative, abstract, and surrealistic, the text makes references to the objects being staged through speculations about their presence, their meaning, their consequence in the world. This place is an illusion where some underlying thing is taking place, materializing itself in the shape of a theatre of sound objects!
